PROJETO LWELWE

Accompanying us with the message that made us dream: "For a Closer World, (a) Beira Aproxima!"

The LweLwe project is a project in partnership with AHBA, but who is AHBA?

We emerged as a project of medical students and after numerous activities, training courses and, culminating with the completion of a first international mission, in the year 2021, it was possible to achieve a major goal – to become a non-profit association. This is how the Beira Aproxima Humanitarian Association was created!

We are taking small, big steps towards the growth and solidification of this project, maintaining the same vision and mission with which we started: to work to bring communities closer together and promote their health.

We propose to:

  1. Carry out international voluntary missions in developing countries in order to contribute to the creation of better health conditions;
  2. To train FCS-UBI volunteers and medical students in technical and social skills that will improve their performance applied to volunteering;
  3. To carry out local volunteering activities, allowing students to act within the community of Beira Interior.

lwelwe [lwɛˈlwɛ] (v.) 1. Aproximar(-se), an expression taken from the free santome/portuguese dictionary, gives its name to this project which aims to do just that: bring different communities closer together while promoting their health.

This is how this project was born, from the immense desire to make a difference, also out there. We allied ourselves to the Children and Youth Foundation, which welcomed this project with open arms and together we materialized this dream shared by both of us!

This project, conceived and carried out by and for medical students and doctors of the future, aims to train them to deal with different situations and contexts, enhancing important soft skills, such as empathy and humanisation of future professionals.

Respect, love, mutual help, commitment and solidarity.

Values by which both parties abide are the basis of what we want to perpetuate and make eternal with this project.

This Volunteer Project will take place in the month of September 2023, between the 14th and 29th, and will be attended by 4 volunteers, one of them the AHBA Volunteer Director, and the others selected through seriation criteria, motivation letter and interviews.
